BUOY – A Weekly LGBTQ-Affirming Support Group

BUOY (Building Understanding of Yourself) is an LGBTQ-affirming support group offered every Thursday at 12pm that focuses on developing and practicing safe strategies for coping with difficult life experiences.

BUOY encourages participants to apply new skills and information in their own lives. In this safe space, participants will have the opportunity to share their own experiences while gaining perspective and insight from the experiences of others. This is a great group to attend if you are looking to heal from trauma, grow as a person, and/or build community with others.

Core concepts:

  • Stay safe
  • Respect yourself
  • Use coping – not substances – to escape the pain
  • Make the present and future better than the past
  • Learn to trust
  • Take good care of your body
  • Get help from safe people
  • To heal fully from PTSD, become substance-free
  • If one method doesn’t work, try something else
  • Never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never give up!
